Rose Marie Santini is a professor at the School of Communication of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, teaching undergraduate, master's and doctoral courses.
She is the founder and director of NetLab (Laboratory of Internet Studies and Social Networks at UFRJ). She also runs the Digital Communication and Activism Laboratory at UFRJ, which coordinates academic research, teaching and outreach activities between the university and civil society in monitoring political campaigns in Brazil and worldwide.
Author of the books “O Algoritmo do Gosto”(The Algorithm of Taste) - volume 1 and 2 - published in 2020, as well as several chapters in national and international publications and scientific articles. As Principal Investigator, she leads the research projects “Opinion-making machines: computational propaganda, contagion and disinformation in online social networks” (2020-2024) and “The media ecosystem dynamic regarding environmental issues, land use, indigenous people's rights and support for climate policies in Brazil” (2020-2025).
